Bearings have been used for thousands of years. Their use is documented in many excellent books on the history of technology. Most are available at any large library. They include:

Most associations
also have publications detailing the history of their industry and may supply you with material specific to a particular component. A phone call, e-mail or snail mail, may get you the material you need. The internet is also an excellent source for information. Be warned. The more specific you are in your keyword search the better your ability to find the information you need. A keyword search for bearings + history resulted in thousands of hits.
