ECSDeanDean Emir José Macari of Sacramento State’s College of Engineering and Computer Science has been named a Senior Fellow of the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST).

Modeled after the National Research Council, CCST and the Senior Fellows provide politically neutral, expert advice and solutions to science and technology-related public policy issues and initiatives. The fellows, who include California’s most distinguished and accomplished scientists and technical experts, are an invaluable resource for federal, state and local government and the education community on important science and technology public policy issues.

Currently, CCST members and Senior Fellows are working on mobile health care, managed access of cell phones in prisons, STEM education and assessing California’s energy needs for 2050, including the viability of renewable energy and nuclear power. They also deal with technological solutions to water issues and have started a program to place 10 Ph.D. graduates in key legislative offices in Sacramento.

“CCST is composed of the best and the brightest engineers and scientists in California, so it is a great honor for me to be asked to join as a senior fellow,” says Macari. “I have been working on several projects with CCST during the last few years, namely in the selection committee for the CCST Legislative Fellows and in the drafting of the ‘Health Impacts of Radio Frequency from Smart Meters’ that was published last March after working on it for five months.”

A list of current Senior Fellows can be found online.
