Sacramento State will host the first Sacramento Med Tech Showcase from 1-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, in the University Union Ballroom.
The event, sponsored by SARTA (Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance), Sacramento State, Sutter Health and UC Davis Health System, will highlight medical technology in the Sacramento region.

More than 350 participants representing hospitals, academia, medical technology companies and venture groups are expected to attend the showcase.

Keynote speakers for the program are David Logan, co-author of Tribal Leadership and The Three Laws of Performance, and David Sheehan, president of IVUS and FM Business Units for Volcano Corporation, a medical technology manufacturing company.

“The medical technology industry is one of the few growing, high-value industries in the Sacramento region,” says Meg Arnold, SARTA CEO. “This showcase will feature companies that are positively contributing to the ongoing economic development and job growth in the Sacramento area.”

Discussion and panel topics include the use of electronic communication to exchange medical information and emerging trends in medical technology investments. More than 50 exhibits, including many medical technology exhibits, will be on display.

“Although the field of medical technology is relatively new to the Sacramento region, Sacramento State faculty members like Professors Warren Smith and John Oldenburg have specialized in biomedical engineering research and development for well over 30 years,” says Emir José Macari, dean of Sacramento State’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Smith has developed wearable miniature medical monitors that automatically detect falls and activity levels in children with cerebral palsy. Oldenburg has performed computational modeling and simulation of the cardiovascular system that helps doctors better understand heart valve performance and blood flow patterns.

Admission is $80 for the public, $40 for SARTA members and $40 for faculty and full-time students.

SARTA is a technology-focused non-profit corporation established to help develop the Sacramento region into a nationally recognized technology center.
