PROCEEDINGS OF THE
38TH
HEAT TRANSFER AND FLUID MECHANICS
INSTITUTE
Edited by Frederick H. Reardon California State University, Sacramento
This volume contains eleven papers presented at the 38th Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics Institute, held at California State University, Sacramento, June 3-4, 2004.
The Institute, which meets biennially, was organized in 1948 as a forum for the presentation and discussion of scientific and technical work on problems related to heat transfer and/or fluid mechanics.
Topics in this volume include: Toeplitz matrices and time series analysis, resonance in flows over corrugated tubes, evaluation of three hydrologic models for flood plain management decisions, sensitivity analysis of important parameters affecting local pier scour depth, optimization of the heat exchanger inventory of a two-stage Carnot refrigerator, effects of gas expansion on turbulent flame propagation, direct-expansion solar-assisted heat-pump water heating system, transient heat transfer analysis of a natural gas hydrate reservoir, optimum first and second law efficiencies of a two-stage refrigeration cycle, heat transfer calculations in a university cogeneration laboratory, and optimization of heat exchanger inventory of a two-stage vapor compression system for maximum thermal performance. 188 pp. Paperbound. ISSN-0097-059X.
