The College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) at CSU Sacramento is a recognized leader in our region, in California and in the nation for its quality educational programs and facilities. ECS offers a hands-on, applied program of study emphasizing the application of engineering and computer science principles to solving complex programs. The College serves approximately 2,900 students taught by nearly 100 full-time and part-time faculty.
Many of our laboratories are truly state-of-the-art. Our computing facilities and network infrastructure are among the best in the country. Many of these facilities were built through partnerships with companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Intel Corporation, and Cisco Systems.
The College's leadership role takes on even more importance with the knowledge that some 50% of California's engineers are educated by The California State University system. California, in turn, produces about 10% of the nation's engineers. ECS is up for this challenge and continues to produce the state with some of our best and brightest.
Since 1999, U.S. News and World Report has ranked the College's undergraduate program in the top 50 among U.S. institutions whose highest degree is either a bachelor's or master's degree. In the most recent ranking, if you were to just look at public institutions, ECS ranks 13th. We are proud of this achievement and continually strive to do better. However, our success is increasingly dependent upon the assistance that we garner from alumni, friends and industry. The CSUS tradition of affordable excellence in education is continued today by both state appropriations and, increasingly, by private funding. The State of California now provides less than 50% of the University's operating budget each year. Thus, the quality of an engineering education would not be the same without the generous support of donors committed to educational opportunity.
Consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Unrestricted gifts enable the College to meet those inevitable challenges and opportunities for which state dollars are not available. On behalf of the entire College, thank you for your continued support.
