General Degree Guidelines All students complete 30 units, beginning with a 9-unit core of general requirements designed to provide a broad foundation to support elective concentrations. Depending on the chosen culmination experience option, students then complete 15-21 units of electives. The electives are chosen in consultation with the Graduate Coordinator and faculty advisors and serve to focus a student's studies in one or more of the following areas, adapting to the needs and interests of the practicing engineer or post-graduate candidate:

Communication Systems 
Control Systems 
Power Systems 
Microelectronic Design 
Computer Architecture/Digital Design
Students then complete 5, 2 or 0 units of EEE 500, depending on option. Students cannot register for Culminating Experience until the student passes the Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE), advances to candidacy and files a signed EEE 500 Topic Form with the Department office. A total of 30 units is required for the EEE M.S. degree.If a student completes EEE 500 units and receives an RP grade for them, but has not completed the thesis/project, the student must enroll for one unit of EEE 599, Continuous Enrollment. This is done through the Graduate Center, River Front Center, Room 215. International students must register for at least one unit of course work in each semester of continuation.
