Student Awards - IEEE Central Area Student Activities
An Announcement from S. K. Ramesh, IEEE Central Area Student Activities Chair, dated Sunday, April 25, 1999: "I am very pleased to share with you the excellent performance of our students at the IEEE Region VI Central Area Student Competitions which were held at CSU Chico yesterday. The Central Area is home to 14 student branches including Berkeley, Stanford and UC Davis. The annual Spring meeting features the Student Paper, Design and Micromouse contests. Students from CSUS won first place in all three competitions yesterday, which is unique in itself." "The micromouse contest went down to the wire and had all the ingredients of a finish that would be decided on the last at bat in the bottom of the ninth. The CSUS team that eventually won the contest was the final team to compete with the holders (University of Hawaii) , already in first place. Team "Kangaroo" from CSUS won the contest in their final run with time running out in a photo finish, regaining the micromouse trophy from Hawaii after two years." The results FYI:
An Announcement from S. K. Ramesh, IEEE Central Area Student Activities Chair, dated Monday, May 1, 2000, Re: IEEE Regional VI Central Area Contest Results : "I am pleased to inform you that the CSUS team of Jason Wortham, Min Jin and Jason Treon, took second place in the IEEE Region VI Design Contest at the University of Nevada, Reno, this weekend. Their design project has been entered in the Natcar competition in San Jose later this month. The team has been working closely with Prof. Tom Matthews from EEE and their design includes some custom designed ICs. Our hearty congratulations to the winners and we wish them the very best in the updoming Natcar competiton on May 26." "The competition was very strong this year with over a dozen schools participating in the contests including Chico, UNR, Hawaii, UC Santa Cruz, SFO state, and UOP. CSUS students participated in the design and paper contests this year. Here FYI are the overall results:" An Announcement from S. K. Ramesh, IEEE Central Area Student Activities Chair, dated Saturday, May 5, 2001, Re: IEEE Regional VI Central Area Contest Results : "CSUS hosted the biannual IEEE Central Area Region 6 meeting and contests from 8 AM - 5 PM today. I am very pleased to inform you that our Senior Product Design students from Prof. Mahlon Heller's class did superbly in the Design Contest capturing first and second place in the competition. The contest this year was the closest we have had since it's inception in 1992 and featured 8 outstanding entries. The Judges commended all participants on the quality of the competition and had a really challenging assignment in selecting the ultimate winners." "Coming in First Place ($300 cash prize) was the G-O-A-T (Grass Overland Automatic Trimmer) by Benny Beltran, Courtney Howerton, Justin Giachino, and Mohamad Hamada from EEE 193B and a close second ($200 cash prize) was the "Solar Powered Automatic Light" by Ken Groza, Sang Jun, Noah Pennington, and Prakash Sah, also from EEE 193B. Congratulations to Mahlon and his students for a great job ! Don't miss these projects when the Senior Project Demonstrations are held later this semester." "The objective of the Design Project Contest is to demonstrate good engineering design and individual or team effort in the construction and demonstration of a design project. A design project will, in general, result in a piece of hardware; e.g., a product prototype, an experimental apparatus, etc. Emphasis is placed on a working project and contestants are expected to use good electrical engineering design and design practices as demonstrated in electrical design, layout, component placement, wiring, construction, testability, maintainability, appearance and human factors." "Seven student branches (of the 12 active branches) from the Central Area participated in today's contests. Honors in the Student Paper Contest were shared between the University of Nevada, Reno and San Francisco State. In the Micromouse contest, the honors were shared between CSU Chico, and UNR. Results from all the contests today are included FYI." An Announcement from S. K. Ramesh, IEEE Central Area Student Activities Chair, dated Monday, May 6, 2002, Re: IEEE Regional VI Central Area Contest Results : "Saturday, May 4th, marked the 19th year of the IEEE Region 6 Central Area Micromouse competition. This year's competition was held at CSU Chico and perhaps fittingly we had 19 mice fighting it out (the most we have ever had in the history of the event) from 7 schools." "The CSUS team of Saif Ali, Jaime Abenojar, Eric Sibal, and Brent Bemis, all from CpE, (Advisor : Suresh), placed third in the contest with a time of 58 seconds, receiving a cash award of $300 and certificates. Clipping them to take second place ($350) was the team from the University of Hawaii with a time of 54 seconds. The winning mouse from CSU Chico ($450) had a time of 28 seconds. Other schools that entered this year's competition included UC Davis, University of the Pacific, University of Nevada, Reno, and San Francisco State." "Congratulations to the students on a great performance." An Announcement from S. K. Ramesh, IEEE Central Area Student Activities Chair, dated Monday, May 5, 2003, Re: IEEE Regional VI Central Area Contest Results : "The IEEE Central Area Meeting and Contests were held at UOP over the weekend. This year's contests attracted entries from 8 schools: UOP, CSU Chico, UC Davis, University of Nevada Reno, University of Hawaii, CSU Sacramento, San Francisco State, and CSU Fresno." "The Nexus team from Suresh's CpE Senior Project class captured second place in the design contest and won $ 300. The results for all the contests are listed below FYI. Congratulations to all our students who participated and in particular to the winning design team." The results FYI:
