Computer Science Student Events
The student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is hosting the Sac State Spring Programming Contest on Friday, March 21, 2008.
Contestants will compete for fun prizes and award plaques by writing programs in either Java, C, or C++ to solve a variety of problems posed by Faculty Judges.
There will be two brackets in the contest: Lower Division and Open Division. The Lower Division bracket is open to any student who has not yet COMPLETED CSc 130 (or its equivalent); anyone may enter the Open Division. The Judges will ensure that at least some of the problems are designed to be solved by students with relatively little programming experience (the equivalent of Computer Science 20 or less).
The contest is organized in teams of three, although individuals and groups of two are also welcome to compete. If you don't already have a team to work with just SHOW UP and we'll try to match you up with someone with similar experience.
The contest starts at 4:00 pm this Friday in Riverside Hall 1015.
Contestants may bring any human-readable resource to the contest (books, listings, notes, etc.) It's a lot of fun -- come see!
Free pizza and drinks will be served!

The Computer Science Department is offering its annual Chevron Scholarship of $1500 each to two students who qualify. The deadline for application is Friday, April 11th. Please see the department for details.
The department will host a Graduate Student Symposium Wednesday, April 16, in which students working on their master's projects will present their works in progress. It is an occasion in which students can learn what others are doing, mingle with faculty, and practice their presentation skills.

The annual UPE honor society initiation is Friday, May 16th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Valley Suite of the University Union. Individual invitations to join UPE will be sent to students in April.
