Summer jobs provide you with an opportunity to make money, learn something about your chosen field, and
make your parents happy all at the same time.   For many students a summer job is the first real
experience in engineering or computer science that they will have.  It is your chance to rub shoulders
with technical professionals, to experience the actual job setting, to engage in work that relates to
your major, and to begin to develop your contact network of people in your field.  

It is also your opportunity to show an employer how you work, to wow them with your skills, and to dazzle
them with your brilliance.  Tons of students have reported that the job they obtained as a student turned
into a career position after graduation.  Even if you choose not to take the offer it is really nice to
have a bird in hand at graduation.  Makes you feel good to be wanted...

Your first job will teach you way more than you ever imagined.  It will be an eye-opening experience.  If
you work in an urban setting your learning experience will begin with the trials and tribulations of the
morning commute, and you will learn the consequences of showing up late.  You will also see how people
relate to one another in a work situation.  You will learn how to dress professionally, how to make small
talk, and how to get things done in a bureaucracy.

Most importantly you will also increase your knowledge base, technical expertise, and skills. And you
will learn whether or not you really want to pursue your chosen field or take a jag in a different
direction.

The best reason for pursuing a summer job experience is, of course, to obtain experience in your field. 
Before you start looking for a summer job it is a really good idea to assess your knowledge and
interests, and to make a list of your goals.  This will help you screen possible jobs and
companies.

The market is incredibly hot right now and companies are desperate to hire students as early as possible
and gain committed employees that will join the company at graduation.  Many full-time summer jobs can
become part time, adjusting to your school schedule, when you return to classes in the fall.  Over the
long term a summer job provides you with the "sling shot" start to your professional career.  Anyone who
has related experience when they graduate will be much more attractive to employers and that is reflected
in the salaries they offer.  

Obtaining summer jobs is very easy right now. I have not seen such a fabulous market for engineers and
computer science candidates in years!  Companies cannot get all of the candidates they want.  All you
have to do is figure out what you want and put yourself out there.

of database systems; maintain the database to ensure its integrity; provide reports for use by staff;

the upcoming graduates. California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) has an exam announcement out
for the Waste Management Engineer (WME) classification. The exam process (Supplemental Exam) is very
straightforward and the first step in getting a state job. We are excited in anticipation of some new
openings for entry level engineers later this summer.

Former Sac State graduates have a major presence at the CIWMB and many have achieved lofty levels in the
organization. We really would like to see that continue. We also have a waste management specialist
(IWMS) exam open, so if you have ideas on getting the word out there we would appreciate it.  Perhaps
in-class announcements by your professors may be appropriate.

MRL designs and manufactures thermal process equipment for the Semiconductor, Solar, and other

Composite Engineering inc (CEi)  will hold  a Pizza/ Info Session on  Thursday, May 3rd at 5:00 in RVR
2018.  They are hiring ME/MET Design engineers for summer internships.  The company wants people who know
AutoCAD and SolidWorks- Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Grad Students.

Interns will work full time summer in the Design Group.  Dave Sarver (Design Group Manager) has stated
that he would like to hire at least two interns. The tasks are:

Position 1)  Tech manual Support/Specialist:

This person should be adept at using both Solidworks and Autocad.  Will be taking system/component models
and converting them into usable line art for use in tech manuals.  The person will become very familiar
with CEI’s UAV systems.  Some modeling and database update may be required.  The ability to follow
guidelines and ask questions will be a great asset.

Position 2) System Verification/Engineering Change Document Processor
 
This person should be adept at using Solidworks and Autocad.  Requires a mechanical hands-on background
with materials (steel, aluminum, etc.) and with general principals and guidelines of system design. Will
verify exiting mechanical systems and update models/drawings per evaluation of such systems.  Once
validation has been completed, documentation will have to be prepared to officially release the drawings
via an internal Engineering Release Process. In some instances, the validation will be complete and
redline incorporation will have to be performed.   A strong background in analysis and following
guidelines will be of importance.  Must not be afraid to ask questions.
