Demand for engineering graduates continues to be strong according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers latest salary and hiring survey based on data collected over the past 3 months. “Thanks to relatively low supply, engineering graduates generally are in demand regardless of the economy.” “Although most of the engineering disciplines posted increases, they were much more modest than those they earned just a year ago, despite the demand.”
It should be noted that the report includes a very small portion of the data of the total offers that will be included in the survey for the entire 2008-2009 survey.
The top paid degrees continue to be in the engineering and computer science areas. All 5 of the majors we offer here are in the top ten. The top ten degrees included: Chem E, ME, CS, EEE, CM, CE, Finance, Logistics/Materials Management, Accounting, and Nursing.
Career Day 2009 on Friday, March 6th is showing strong demand for technical majors- When I surveyed the organizations on what is fueling their hiring - here is what they reported (they could cite more than one reason):
This is the break down on which majors are in the highest demand (some organizations hire multiple majors):

Dear Students, Don’t miss out on practicing those tough interview questions with employers. The Career Center is launching a new program titled “Speed Interviewing,” to assist students in getting that great practice. All majors are welcome. Here is how it works… students will be given the opportunity to interface with employers for a 10 minute interview session, then jump to another table for another experience with a different recruiter. It is fast and very effective. Harlan Coomes from SMUD – Engineering Manager, says, “I use this method with internal and external hires, tell your students it really works.” No sign-ups necessary! Event: Speed Interviewing………….
